Outer order leads to inner calm.
I started living simply through first realizing I did not need all the things. I looked at my life which was consumed with trying to get the newest, coolest, trendiest items. I realized how much money and time was spent consuming. I was not even happy with the items I had I was actually stressed by the amount of things I owned. I realized I needed items that I actually loved not what would impress others. I would not say I am a minimalist by any means but I have begun to live simpler and the amount of stress I experienced has diminished significantly. Here are the tips that I use when simplifying my life.
- Pull out all the clothes you don’t wear
- Now this may be difficult to gage what you actually wear. What helped me was to turn all my hangers backwards. As I wore something I turned the hanger back forwards. Everything that was still backwards after a month was donated to the thrift store.
- Clear and throw out all expired items
- This includes medicines, hygiene products, and food items.
- Start decluttering certain areas
- Pick an area and jump in. It may help to make three piles things that belong there, things that need to go elsewhere, and things to donate/throw away.
- Once the space is decluttered keep it that way. Do not allow anything that is not in use to be placed in this area.
The problem is usually we can declutter and minimize no problem, the problem comes when we start buying new junk to replace it. Create a thirty day list. This is a list you put everything that would be an impulse buy. This does not include food or necessities. Put anything you want to buy on a list with the date. In thirty days if you still want to buy it then go ahead. This will cut down on those impulse buys and keep those newly decluttered spaces clean.
